High School

To become a chiropractor you will of course have to have either a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). After that you’ll have to study for an undergraduate or bachelor’s degree. After receiving your associate or bachelor’s degree, you’ll need to enroll into an accredited chiropractic school to study for the doctor of chiropractic degree.

College

Usually you will attend a college or university either in person or online. You will typically have to be 18 years of age and have received your high school diploma or equivalent. The required and relevant application forms and papers will need to be filled out and sent in on time.

Most universities all over the country have the same requirements that are pretty strict regarding enrollment. Typically an associate degree will have to be obtained either via in person or from an internet based school and/or be at least 21 to 22 years of age. There are other requirements if foreign nationals decide to they would like to come to the United States for college studies.

Chiropractic School

When it comes to chiropractic schooling, the requirements will vary from school to school and from state to state. Some schools may require a bachelor’s degree in a specified relevant field is obtained prior to enrollment or that you have time as a chiropractor’s assistant. It’s vital that you look into the schools and their requirements before sending your application, required paperwork and any fees to these schools. If you are rejected for the lack of the requirements, these are un-refundable.

Typical chiropractor school lasts approximately four (4) years. This does not include the time it takes to get your general education, which is anywhere from 2-4 years prior. Total study time can be up to eight (8) years. It could take a bit longer at times, depending on the general education study time.

It is important that you do an incredible amount of research before you apply for chiropractic school and that you ask the right questions. Making sure to ask about study requirements, fees, possible financial aid options and anything else you feel is necessary to ask about. The most important thing to do is to attend an accredited chiropractic school, because of licensing requirements. If you don’t graduate from an accredited school most states won’t grant you a license to practice.

Licensing

In most states after you have completed school and wish to acquire a license, you will have to take and pass the exam given by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

This is four (4) part exam, but is not a guarantee of a license. If you have questions, you should call the licensing division in your state and they will answer all questions for you. As always with any licensing requirements and any schooling you do, you will have to continue your education continually throughout your career. Good luck folks!
